Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • Authors are required to make sure submitted content does not infringe 3rd party copyright. More information from the Intellectual Property Office here: https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/intellectual-property-office
  • The submission file is a Microsoft Word document.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is single-spaced; uses 12-point Times New Roman font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines, which is found in About the Journal.
  • If submitting to a peer-reviewed section of the journal, the instructions in Ensuring a Blind Review have been followed.

National Institutes of Bioscience Journal accepts various types of articles that benefit our audience. All our articles are peer reviewed by academic experts. Please see Peer Review Process.  Please note we do not charge authors for publication.

All authors must register with the journal before submitting online.

We will notify authors of the outcome of their submission as soon as possible during the review process. Please email the editor if you have any questions (nib@roslin.ed.ac.uk).

Submitting your manuscript

Before submitting your manuscript, please ensure that you carefully read and adhere to all the guidelines and instructions to authors provided below. Online submission and review of manuscripts is mandatory for all papers. Before submitting a manuscript please ensure that it is fully in keeping with the journal’s house style.

Formatting Requirements

  • English.
  • Double spaced
  • Margins of 2.5cm on all sides.
  • 12-point sized font.
  • Times New Roman
  • Include page numbers at the bottom right corner of each page
  • Microsoft Word document

Please include a title page as a supplementary file, stating:

  • Title of article
  • Type of article (original article, review article, case report..)
  • Corresponding authors’ full name, postal address, and email address
  • Full names, departments, institutions, city and country of all co-authors.
  • Up to five keywords or phrases suitable for use in an index (it is recommended to use MeSH terms).
  • Word count – excluding title page, abstract, references, figures and tables.
  • Acknowledgments
  • Competing interests
  • Funding
  • Referencing should be in Vancouver format.
  • All images must be cited within the main text in numerical order.

Plagiarism

Plagiarism found within the manuscript will lead to automatic rejection. For information on plagiarism, please refer to the Learnhigher guide

Permissions

Permissions from co-authors must be received where relevant. Authors are responsible for ensuring that consent is obtained by supervisors and co-authors depending on the type of submission to the National Institutes of Bioscience Journal

Original submissions

All work that you submit shall be reviewed on the basis that it has not been submitted for publication in another journal concurrently, or been published elsewhere.

The names and email addresses entered in this journal site will be used exclusively for the stated purposes of this journal and will not be made available for any other purpose or to any other party.
