Author Guidelines

Thank you for considering submitting your manuscript to Register Reports in Linguistics (RRLing)! Please, carefully read the following guidelines and submission checklist below before making a submission.

RRLing accepts only manuscripts in the format of a Registered Report. Please, familiarise yourself with the format if you are unsure. We will not accept non-registered manuscripts. The editorial process is shared between RRLing and Peer Community In Registered Reports (PCI RR). RRLing deals with the initial screening of the manuscript and with the final publication, while PCI RR deals with the review process of the Stage 1 and Stage 2 manuscripts. The final accepted Stage 2 manuscript will be published without further review in RRLing.

Here is an overview of the editorial process:

  • The authors submit a Stage 1 manuscript to RRLing.
  • An editor screens the submission to assess it meets the required standards.
  • If accepted, the authors submit the Stage 1 manuscript to PCI-RR.
  • Peer-review takes place in PCI-RR. If an In Principle Acceptance is given, the authors proceed by carrying out the study.
  • When the study is completed, a Stage 2 manuscript is submitted to PCI-RR for review. If accepted, the authors submit the final (Stage 2) manuscript to RRLing.
  • The manuscript is published on RRLing.

The journal has three Registered Report sections:

  • Registered Report: Research article. This section is for general research articles or for mixed articles (articles with both general research and meta-analyses and/or replications).
  • Registered Report: Meta-analysis. This section targets meta-analyses specifically.
  • Registered Report: Replication. This section is exclusively for replication studies.

If in doubt, send to the Research article section.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The authors agree with the editorial workflow and, pending the initial screening by RRLing, will submit their Stage 1 manuscript to Peer Community In Registered Reports (PCI RR) for peer-review. Stage 2 manuscripts, once recommended by PCI RR, can be submitted to RRLing for publication without further review.
  • The submitted manuscript meets the requirements detailed in the Guide for authors at PCI RR.
  • The submitted manuscript uses one of the RRLing templates: LaTeX template, Quarto template. We will not accept manuscripts that do not use these templates. If you have questions about using the templates, please email Stefano Coretta at s.coretta@ed.ac.uk.
  • The Research Compendium of the Registered Report (with code, materials and preliminary data if present) must be publicly available at submission of Stage 1 and Stage 2 manuscripts. You can choose which provider to use for hosting the compendium. If unsure, we suggest the Open Science Framework. We will not accept manuscripts for which the compendium is not available.
  • This submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration. Manuscripts shared online (like in pre-print services) are not considered to have been previously published.
  • All references have been checked for accuracy and completeness.
  • All tables and figures have been numbered and labeled.
  • Permission has been obtained to publish all photos, datasets and other material provided with this submission.
